Smith Street Workshop

2023-2024 COVID-19 Health and Safety

We recognize that COVID-19 rates and variants, government safety guidelines, vaccine eligibility, and individual personal comfort level with different types of activities are changing daily.  Smith Street Workshop will continue to closely follow the trajectory of the pandemic as well as shifting safety guidance and vaccine eligibility. We will update and communicate our plans and protocols throughout the year as new information emerges. We hope everything continues to improve, but we have contingency plans and virtual teaching options should they be necessary.

2023–24 Smith Street Workshop Safety Measures:

For the 2023-2024 school year, the Workshop will be following the safety protocols and procedures listed below for in-person classes/tutoring sessions. Please note our updated policy on masking.

  • All of our staff are vaccinated and have received boosters; we require proof of vaccination for employment at Smith Street Workshop.

  • Our waiting room will remain closed to parents and caregivers, until further notice.

  • At the Workshop, we have a rigorous professional cleaning/disinfecting/sanitizing schedule, as well as upgraded ventilation and air filtration systems.

  • We will continue to follow the advice of public health authorities, and reserve the right to reinstate a mask requirement if necessary.

  • In the rare circumstance that we are mandated to close, we will shift to virtual instruction.

2023-24 COVID-19 Policies

  • The Workshop will be following guidance from the NYCDOE for isolation/testing protocols. If your student is exposed to COVID-19 or tests positive for COVID-19, please refer to the NYCDOE COVID-19 Guidance page for isolation/testing protocols and requirements.

  • Remote/virtual sessions are always available upon request; all of our tutors are trained to provide remote instruction.

  • The mask mandate has been lifted. Effective Monday, September 12th, 2022, masks will be optional for all staff and students at Smith Street Workshop, with the exception of the following circumstances:

    • Students and staff are required to wear a mask when:

      • Returning to the Workshop on the sixth day after testing positive for COVID-19, through day 10 after symptom onset or date of positive test, whichever is earlier.

      • Exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.

    • Students and staff are strongly recommended to wear a mask:

      • When they were exposed to someone with COVID-19.  The person should wear a mask for 10 days after their last day of exposure and get tested at least 24 hours apart on day 4 and day 5 of their exposure.

      • When they are moderately-to-severely immunocompromised, and masking is recommended by their healthcare provider.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate the ever-evolving pandemic.
