Our Approach

"Not to know is wonderful, because it gives the possibility to learn."
– Nathalie de Salzman de Etievan

Our teaching philosophy is based in the traditions of progressive education with a firm belief in respecting children as learners and in understanding that we do not all learn at the same rate or in the same way. The most important aspect of our teaching is to build
confidence and to engender a sense of optimism and curiosity in our students when faced with a complex new concept. Too often students have the impression that if they do not understand something initially, they must not be good at it, when in fact not to know sets the stage for new learning. The way a student approaches an obstacle or not knowing makes all the difference in an ability to experience success and satisfaction in learning and life. Valuing the hard work and effort it takes to master new material is crucial in a child's cognitive and emotional development, and it is a concept that can be taught. Through encouraging minor shifts in a child's perspective about the learning process, we have seen our students make remarkable academic gains as they uncover a renewed sense of ownership of the educational experience. Acquisition of new skills and mastery of new concepts is a natural outgrowth of this process, and our tutors tailor their lessons specifically to take each student's learning to the next level.

We look forward to helping your child rediscover the joy of learning and a sense of wonder when faced with intellectual challenges.
