SHSAT TEST PREP
The Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) is the sole criterion for admission to eight of New York City’s specialized high schools, including Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech. The SHSAT is designed to assess the academic aptitude of eighth grade students in two key areas: English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. The exam includes multiple-choice questions that evaluate a student’s reading comprehension, grammar, and math problem-solving skills.
With its highly competitive nature, understanding the SHSAT’s format and content is essential for students aiming to earn a spot in one of the city’s top public high schools.
Register for an SHSAT Mock Test
Curious about your student’s starting point? Register now for a proctored mock exam! Taking a practice test under test-like conditions establishes a baseline and helps pinpoint areas for improvement. The results provide valuable insights that guide our tutors in delivering targeted instruction and help parents make informed decisions about their child’s preparation.
PLEASE NOTE: We are currently only proctoring paper exams in-person. We do not proctor digital exams at this time.
If our proctored dates do not work with your student’s schedule, you may purchase a practice test to administer at home and send back to us for scoring.

SHSAT RESULTS
Our 8th graders who took the SHSAT this past fall have now received their results, and we couldn’t be more proud of their hard work and dedication throughout the test prep season.
In our annual survey, 80% of students who reported their results for the 2024 SHSAT were accepted to a Specialized High School.
28% of those accepted students scored 556 or higher, meeting or exceeding the cutoff for Stuyvesant High School — the most competitive of the Specialized High Schools. An additional 4% scored just one point below the cutoff, with a score of 555.
TUTORING OPTIONS
Individual Sessions
Each weekly individual tutoring session runs for one hour and meets at the workshop. Let us know your child’s grade level, needs and interests, and we will pair him/her with the teacher who will provide the best support.
Small Group Sessions
Often, students need support in similar areas and can benefit from small group work and collaboration to advance their skills. Students in a group tutoring session must be in the same grade and at similar levels in their studies in order for the work together to be productive. Parents may propose a group of 2–4 students, and/or we can help coordinate with other students before matching the best tutor to facilitate the weekly hour-long session.
Online Sessions
Location is no longer a barrier. No matter where you live, we can find the perfect tutor for your child. Once you’ve found that tutor, you can stick with them, wherever you are and wherever they are.

If your child cannot attend a scheduled session, please provide 24 hour notice to avoid a full session charge.
