Classes for middle school students
Last fall, we launched an exciting new French language program, the DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française), in response to the demand for more leveled French courses. Read more below!
Préparation au DELF - Diplôme d'études en langue française
What is the DELF program? The DELF is an internationally recognized diploma awarded by the French ministry of education that certifies a student's French language proficiency. For Smith Street Workshop, the DELF provides a wonderful framework for our language classes - its benchmarks reflect excellent language instruction that encompasses speaking, listening, writing, reading as well as a basic understanding of French culture and history. In June, our students will have the option of registering at the Alliance Française for the DELF exam, which will provide them with a diploma that is valid for life, certifying their French proficiency at one of 6 different levels.

Ici on parle français! (Advanced French Oral Expression)
April 25th - June 20th
Time: Tuesday 4:30-5:30
Ages: 6th-8th grade
French level: Intermediate/Advanced
Instructor: Blake Ramsey
This class is designed for middle schoolers with a considerable amount of French experience. In this course, students will acquire research skills to prepare debates, story telling and reports to work on oral expression. Students will work on their "speaking muscles," the most important in terms of foreign and second language maintenance. The linguistic objectives align with the DELF A2 Junior level. Just as with the composition class, students will explore informal, neutral, and formal registers and the nuances between the written and spoken word. While this course is designed to complement the Thursday Advanced French Composition Course, and it is recommended to also enroll in both for best results, even joining one of the classes will lead to significant growth for the students. Designed for students in grades 6th - 8th.
